Online Backup: How it Works
Backing up Data:
Standard Backup: Data
Vault's Online Backup Client is downloaded and installed on the computer(s)
to be backed up.
Select
file for backup, at a
predetermined time your selected files are compressed
and encrypted using an encryption
key known only to you, then your encrypted files are transfers to Data
Vault's secure storage facility.
Large Initial Backups:
Because of the time and bandwidth requirements for completing
large initial backups, Data Vault's Copy to Disk feature performs onsite backups
using a portable hard drive. The drive is shipped to Data Vault
and uploaded on to the backup server.
Restoring Data:
Data Vault understands restoring your data is the reason you
trust us with your data. We provide multiple ways or levels of data
restoration.

The first is online, where modest amounts of data may be restored
from Data Vault data center or the Local Restore (optional).

The second is where
the data is restored web restore agent, and
-
the final method, for major disaster
recovery, where the restore data is physically delivered via a portable disk or
media to the customer’s site or alternative disaster recovery location.
Online Restore Method: Data can be restored to any system or storage device the
administrator can browse.
The primary method of
data
restoration is online. The Restore Wizard that guides you through the process of
selecting and restoring data. The Restore Wizard allows you to search and select
files for restore, select the version of the files and choose the target
destination for delivery.
This level of restore is used in instances of
moderate data loss, typically single/small number of files on a small/medium
server.
Online Restore - Standard restore using backup
client user interface:

Pick the RESTORE option

Provides instant access to restore any version of your data files - not just
the latest version.

Tag the files you want to restore, and then restore

Restore files to their original locations or save files under a new name or
location.

Online Restore - Stand-Alone Restore Agents:
Web Restore Agent – Allows you to restore files using the
internet to any computer, without the installing the backup client software.
Full Disaster Recovery - Onsite Restore Using a Portable Storage Device:
When bandwidth and data volume make an online restore
impractical. Data Vault's Disk Restore Agent allows you to restore your
files without the Internet, from any removable media, without installing the
Client software.
The Disk Restore Agent is sent with your
compressed and encrypted data. It can restore files from CDs, DVDs, Memory
Sticks, or USB Drives.
